How to Decorate an Empty Living Room Corner

If you have been wondering what to do with that empty living room corner in your living room, you’re not alone. When it comes to decorating your living room, most people focus on the coffee table, the sofa, the color of the walls and most often, corners are overlooked. Empty corners in your living room can make the most difference and leave the room feeling incomplete.

Here are some ideas that have worked for me and continue to make our living room feel more inviting to this day.

Elevate your space with plants

If you love decorating with plants as much as I do, you probably already know that this is the one of the easiest ways to bring life into your living room. I think it’s also safe to say that using plants instead of decorative objects is one of the best decorating investments you can make.

Your corner can be decorated with a plant stand showcasing the plants that bring good luck and wealth to your home, or you can just display one large statement plant. You could also create a plant corner consisting of a variety of plants with different sizes and leaf shapes.

Create a reading corner

A comfortable accent chair with a soft throw, a small side table, and an aesthetic lamp can completely transform an unused corner. You can have a basket beside the chair with a collection of your favorite books to read making it the perfect spot for you to unwind at the end of a long day.

The best part about having a reading corner is that it actually serves a purpose and not just a space that collects dust and created just for the sake of decorating.

Lighting Changes Everything

For the longest time, we always wondered why our living room wasn’t cozy enough. No matter how tidy the room was, it felt incomplete.

Adding a floor lamp changed the atmosphere completely making the room look warmer and more inviting. We love using the floor lamp when we have visitors over instead of always using the ones on the ceiling. It creates a more relaxing mood at the end of the long day when you just want to unwind.

Adding pieces of storage

I always appreciate pieces of furniture that are beautiful as well as useful. Placing a slim cabinet in the corner helps filling up space as well as gives additional place to hide the mess. Things like board games, pack of cards, candles, extra blankets or magazines can have a dedicated spot that helps keep things more organized while looking stylish.

If you want to decorate more, you can place a candle on top of the cabinet over a stack of books. Rather than cluttering it, keeping the decor to the minimum makes it look more organized.

Use Vertical Space

This is a great idea for small living rooms that have less floor space. It looks elegant and can look very personal when you use them to display family photos or pieces of art, small plants you grew, or a few small succulents. They can be pretty low-maintenance.

When using floating shelves, try leaving a few empty inches and not overcrowding the shelves. This helps each item stand out and look more elegant. I like to combine my floating shelves with a small trailing plant like pothos, a candle, some books or a framed photo.

The smallest change makes the most difference sometimes. It doesn’t have to involve expensive furniture of a whole new makeover. Sometimes its best to leave a space empty.
