How to style a money plant

If there is only one plant I could recommend for a beginner, it is the money plant, also called as pothos. It was one of the first plants I ever owned and after years of gardening I can still say that this is the easiest plant to grow. Money plant is a very fast-growing plant allowing it to be styled in many different ways. In this post, you can find several ways on how to style a money plant.

You can actually decorate your home with this plant alone. The best part is that it can even grow in water. No soil, no mess. It just grows on its own with minimal care and that is why this plant so common in many households, because of its low-maintenance.

It also makes the perfect gift for a house-warming or any occasion for starting on a new journey, maybe a new job or it can be a great gift for a newly married couple, sort of like a good-luck gift.

Money plant is also considered one of the plants that invite good luck and wealth into your home. According to Feng shui, you must place the plant in the south-east corner of the room at home or in an office.

Cascade from a high shelf

This style is very natural. It allows the plant to showcase its vines in a very natural way. You can keep it at the top of a bookshelf or on floating shelves. If you like you can add some lights along the bookshelf for a more inviting look.

Climbing a wall

This style is kinda the opposite of cascading. If you have long trailing vines, you can have the money plant in a huge pot and train it to climb a wall using sticks or just simple clips. It looks absolutely stunning when the leaves reach right up to the ceiling. This is my favorite way to style my money plant.

Hanging planters

This is a great option for small spaces as you can use vertical space instead of floor space. Hang your money plant in a hanging planter or a basket in front of a bright window giving it a waterfall effect which looks stunning even in your kitchen. However, you must ensure the plant gets only indirect sunlight.

Decorative pots

Once you bring your plant home from the nursery, don’t forget to move it into a decorative pot. Sometimes changing the pot is all it takes to make a style statement. You can use woven baskets, terracotta pots, ceramic or metallic pots. If you are still confused, go with a plain and simple white textured pot. It can make the plant look very elegant.

Style your pants in water

This is the easiest and most elegant way to style your money plant. Don’t throw away your glass jars and bottles. I love using them to style my pothos. It adds a modern look to any room and is great as you can watch the roots develop. This can be a great way to propagate your money plant too. All you have to do is place the cuttings in water and you will start seeing roots develop in a few weeks.

Decorate your money plant with more plants

Create a plant corner with several plants of various heights and leaf shapes. Pair your money plant with a peace lily or spider plant. Since the money plant has a more trailing vine like nature, they will go well with other bushy plants and create a lush indoor jungle look.

I actually just brought home a money plant the other day, so this was perfect timing! I love all of these styling ideas, especially growing it in water and letting the vines cascade from a shelf. Thanks for the inspiration!
