However, a lot of women experience fatigue, heartburn, weakness, constipation and nausea during this period making food consumption difficult. Choosing healthy foods for your and your baby’s nourishment can help you ease discomforts. You need to ensure you have a balance of protein, iron, calcium, Omega3 and fiber. This will help with recovery post partum as well. Since a lot of nutrients are carried on for the baby’s development, we as mothers tend to lack these nutrients post delivery.

The foods that are high in nutrients and beneficial for the third trimester are:

  • Whole grains
  • Eggs – high in protein
  • Legumes or lentils – high in protein
  • Fish (particularly Salmon)
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Leafy vegetables such as spinach
  • Dairy – Milk/Cheese/Yogurt
  • Chia Seeds, Almonds and walnuts
